• Lions’ season comes to screeching halt
  HEWITT — A season that started with a state ranking ended without a post season trip for the Brownwood Lions.

• Longhorns alone at the top
  BALLINGER — The Early Longhorns headed to Ballinger looking for outright possession of the District 6-2A title. They got their wish, winning the title after a missed 33-yard Bearcat field goal in overtime.

• Caged  -  Cleburne knew it was facing a tough Joshua team, but didn’t know how strong the Owls would be until the Jackets faced a 35-14 deficit at halftime before ending the game with a 38-22 loss.….more>>  

• Zebras give Tigers the boot  -  The Grandview Zebras defeated Hico 47-29 to claim the District 11-2A championship Friday night at Zebra Stadium.

• Elks out of playoff hunt with loss to Jaguars   -  Burleson’s chances at the postseason ended Friday night at Elk Stadium after a 35-7 loss to Mansfield Summit and a 35-14 win by Weatherford over Granbury.

• Panthers end season with win over Eagles  -  The Maypearl Panthers scored the go-ahead touchdown with 30 seconds left in the fourth quarter and held on to win 14-7 at Eagle Field on Friday night.

• Indians edge out Rams in finale  -  The Mineral Wells Rams ended 79 years of football at Miller Stadium on Friday with a 24-21 loss to the Alvarado Indians.

• Cisco hands Godley Wildcats 48-6 loss   -  No. 2-ranked Cisco handed Godley a 48-6 loss Friday night to clinch the District 10-2A championship and an undefeated season heading into the playoffs.

• Huskies hang on to win 28-27 against Andress
  Coaches harp on mastering the little things, and Friday night’s District 1-4A football game at Irvin showed exactly why they preach for perfection.

• Riverside wins finale, but misses playoff bid
  Even with a last game win, the Riverside Rangers still came up short for a playoff spot in District 2-4A play Friday night after beating San Elizario 44-6 at 

• Montwood beats Socorro for perfect 1-5A season
  In what was little more than a glorified workout before next weekend’s bi-district playoff round match-up at San Angelo Central, Montwood still found time in its 

• Second Baptist advances to 5A title game in volleyball

• District Champs -  MADISONVILLE — The Madisonville Mustangs set the record straight Friday. The new champs of District 19-3A are much more than a one-man show.

• Dogs drop heartbreaker to Eagles  -  NEW WAVERLY — A storybook ending was being written for New Waverly on Friday. The Bulldogs took the lead with a minute to go in the season finale, which was also the last game at the aging Bulldog Stadium.

• Coldspring falls to Splendora 22-15  -  SPLENDORA — For the second week in a row, the Coldspring Trojans found out the hard way that turnovers in the red zone can be costly.
  This time it cost them a shot at the District 22-3A title.

• Waco holds off Cove in OT for 16-4A title
  WACO – In a game that was labeled the “Clash of the Titans,” the fourth-ranked Waco Lions and No. 7 Copperas Cove Bulldawgs did not disappoint as the Waco Lions prevailed in a 27-21 overtime victory at Waco ISD Stadium on Friday night.

• Number 1 ‘Horns; United captures back-to-back titles  -  The final tally on the scoreboard, which showed United 36 and United South zero, highlighted a strong defensive performance for the Longhorns

• For all the marbles…  -  Apparently there’s not as much confusion as many may have thought for the final seeding in District 29-5A playoff competition.

• Idalou, Sundown wrap perfect runs through districts
  The last Friday of the high school football regular season couldn’t have been more perfect for a couple of teams.

• Westerners fall short
  The Lubbock High football team needed a lot of things to go right Friday night in its quest to make the playoffs. In a lot of ways, the Westerners got exactly what they needed.

• Muleshoe wins to claim outright District 2-2A title
  MULESHOE – Garret Riley threw for three touchdowns to give Muleshoe a 41-6 win over Friona. The Mules win the outright District 2-2A title with the victory.

• Snyder blasts Andrews to win district championship
  SNYDER – Will Clay and Lance Day combined for six touchdowns to give Snyder the win over Andrews and the outright District 3-3A title.

• New Deal holds off determined Olton for win
  NEW DEAL – All week long, New Deal head coach Ron Mayo told his team that Olton had a good squad.

• Ralls claims first district title since 1992
  RALLS – Andrew Contreras scored his only touchdown to help give Ralls the 17-13 win and its first district title and playoff berth since 1992.

• West Campus lives to play another day in District 26-3A

• Reagan vs. Judson: Wright sets city regular season rushing record in Rattlers’ victory

• David Flores: Concern for Hondo’s Robles spreads to the other sideline as well and helps bind fans

• Aledo headed to postseason again  The victorious Bearcats will make their 12th consecutive playoff trip.

• Timberview shuts down Mansfield in second half  

• Coogs fall, but reach playoffs - Trailing Midland Lee by seven points in the fourth quarter, Cooper had two chances from inside the Rebels’ 30-yard line to tie it up Friday, but an interception in the end zone and turnover on downs with less than two minutes remaining allowed Lee to hold on for a 35-28 win. • Bobcats can Hardin-Jefferson  -  A trio of Orangefield ball carriers reached triple-digits in rushing yards, as the Bobcats racked up 486 yards of offense in a 42-13 win over Hardin-Jefferson to wrap up District 21-3A action at F.L. McLain Stadium.

  JARRELL – Only 24 minutes separated Jarrell from celebrating its remarkable late-season surge back to the playoffs.

• Troy flattens Academy
  LITTLE RIVER-ACADEMY – With little at stake with regard to playoff positioning and district status, the Troy Trojans’ primary mission Friday night was to build momentum going into the postseason.

• Academy, Belton’s Tindell, Yoe, Salado, Bruceville-Eddy ready for Round Rock  -  ROUND ROCK – Academy’s Lady Bumblebees seem to be on a countdown at the UIL State Cross Country Meet. In the past three seasons they have been eighth, seventh and sixth. Today, in the two-mile Class 2A girls final at Old Settlers Park, coach Lee Bender’s team would like to continue the trend and, if possible, accelerate their performance.

• No. 4 Waco edges No. 7 Cove
  WACO – The hype couldn’t live up to this game.
  Waco fullback Bronshae Dugas ran in from 25 yards in overtime to lift No. 4 Waco (9-1, 5-0) to a 27-21 win over No. 7 Copperas Cove and claim the outright District 16-4A title Friday night at Waco ISD Stadium.

• No. 2 Liberty Hill runs over Yoe
  CAMERON – These are not the best of times for the Cameron Yoe Yoemen. Last week, a 43-21 loss at Milam County rival Rockdale stopped Yoe’s three-game winning streak in the “Battle of the Bell.”

• Tem-Cats reach Chisholm Trail semis
  BELTON – Friday wasn’t the prettiest of days for the Temple Tem-Cats, but they survived a few spats of foul weather to reach the semifinals of the Chisholm Trail Classic at Mary Hardin-Baylor’s Mayborn Campus Center.

• Westwood clinches playoff spot  -  It has taken 15 years, but the Westwood Panthers once again are in the playoffs, defeating Groesbeck 55-8 Friday night at Panther Stadium to seal the deal.….more>>

• Cougarettes, Wildcats tangle in final
  The Wildcats (38-4) are a formidable foe, but so are the Cougarettes (35-7), who bring a 20-match winning streak into today’s match.

• NBCA falls at TAPPS state tournament
  Taller, more experienced Lady Patriots from Amarillo San Jacinto prevail in a semifinal contest in Fort Worth.

• Too little, too late – It was a bittersweet ending for the Palestine Wildcats. Palestine defeated Fairfield 35-21 Friday night but the Wildcats did not get the help they needed and Palestine’s season came to an end.….more>>

• Cayuga going places  -  BETHEL — Sophomore running back Traylon Shead trampled the Cross Roads Bobcats for 336 yards rushing, punctuated by six touchdowns, as Cayuga rolled to a 56-14 win Friday night in District 21-A action.

• Frankston tops Bobcats in shootout   -  FRANKSTON — The Kerens Bobcats traveled to Frankston last night to earn a spot in post-season play; however, they came up short in an explosive offensive showcase.

• Dawson ends season with back-to-back wins  -  DAWSON — It was senior night in more ways than one at Ed Mitchell Field Friday. The Dawson Bulldogs, led by their seniors, pounded the visiting Iola Bulldogs, 34-0, finishing the season on a two-game win streak.

  Before a modest crowd Friday night at John Clark Stadium, Plano West blocked a Berkner field goal, threw an 80-yard touchdown pass, picked off a pass to seal the game and solidified a playoff game at Texas Stadium next week, all within a 20-second period.

• West to face district foe
  HUNTSVILLE n Austin Westwood (30-12) defeated Plano West (33-8) in Game 1 of Friday’s Region II Semifinals match. But considering how tight things were throughout the opening game, it seemed inevitable that the match would go five.

  Columbia’s defense pitched a second-half shutout as the Roughnecks rallied from behind to secure a 34-22 victory over Brookshire-Royal in a district 24-3A finale Friday night.

• Columbus runs over Bulldogs
  The Sweeny Bulldogs closed their 2007 season with a 33-22 loss to the Cardinals in a District 24-3A game Friday night.

• Danbury fumbles outside chance at postseason
  The playoff futility will continue for the Danbury Panthers, as they dropped a District 27-2A decision, 48-26, to Brazos on Friday night.

• Van Vleck ends on losing note, 44-14
  The Hitchcock Bulldogs claimed sole possession of the District 27-2A championship Friday with a 44-14 victory over Van Vleck.

• Mencacci’s OT run sends Creek to playoffs
  LEAGUE CITY — Nick Mencacci’s 16-yard touchdown run in overtime gave the Clear Creek Wildcats a 20-14 win over county rival Ball High.

• Stings survive scare from Mustangs
  TEXAS CITY — The Stings held on for a thrilling 21-20 victory over the Mustangs in a District 23-4A game at Stingaree Stadium.

• Bulldogs chew up Leopards for 27-2A title
  HITCHCOCK — Sophomore quarterback Morris Tuck threw four touchdown passes as the Hitchcock Bulldogs defeated the Van Vleck Leopards, 44-14.

• Buffalo shuts out Elkhart, 33-0 ELKHART — The Buffalo Bison finished the season with two straight wins as they defeated Elkhart 33-0 Friday night in the season finale for both teams.

• College Park downs Oak Ridge  -  College Park capped off its second consecutive playoff-bound regular season at Moorhead Stadium on Friday night, and got a bit of revenge in the process as the Cavaliers knocked off district rival Oak Ridge 27-14.  Full Story

• Bears top Willis  -  WILLIS – Montgomery and Willis closed out the season Friday night at Berton A.Yates Stadium, and it was all Bears as they scored on seven of nine possessions en route to a 49-21 victory over the Wildkats. Full Story

• Crosby downs New Caney  -  NEW CANEY – The New Caney Eagles closed out the 2007 21-4A season on Friday night at Don Ford Stadium, falling to playoff-bound Crosby by a final score of 33-18. With the loss the Eagles end the season with a record of 2-8, 2-5 in district play. Full Story
