  ODESSA — Montwood High School took an early two-touchdown lead on No. 5 Odessa Permian on Saturday, then let turnovers and big plays squash what could have been the region’s biggest upset. 

• Austin’s dream season comes to an end
  LUBBOCK — The Austin High School football team ended its special season Saturday in a hard-fought 47-20 loss to Lubbock Estacado in the teams’ area-round playoff game at Lowrey Field in Lubbock. 

• Canutillo falls to Hereford in 4A game, 13-8
  ODESSA — Face-whipping snow and a determined Hereford High School football team foiled Canutilloâs attempts at its first-ever second-round playoff victory. 

• Cy Ridge ‘D’ stops Eisenhower in final seconds — With the Rams clinging to a seven-point lead and Eisenhower threatening in the final seconds with a second-and-goal at the 2, the Cy Ridge defense stopped an Eisenhower quarterback Kenneth Guiton run at the 1 and time expired as the Rams held on to beat the Eagles 35-28 on Saturday at the Berry Center.

• Hebron ousts DeSoto in four overtimes  - Hebron survived four overtimes and an afternoon of emotional ups and downs and eliminated DeSoto, 50-44, on Saturday in a Class 5A Division II area playoff game.

• HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL Wright powers Reagan’s comeback over O’Connor Reagan running back Marcus Wright rushed for more than 100 yards in each of the final three quarters to finish with 340 in a 35-28 come-from-behind victory over the O’Connor Panthers

• Shorthanded Elks ousted   – Idalou totaled 327 yards, including 223 all-purpose yards from Tanner Cook, as the Wildcats ended Stratford’s football season with a 20-7 victory in a Class 2A Division II area-round playoff game before 1,500 fans at Kimbrough Memorial Stadium.

• Bucks wear down Cyclones   – Bill Bryan’s 40-yard touchdown run on a fourth-and-18 play early in the third quarter gave White Deer all the momentum it would need as the Bucks went on to claim a 33-0 Class 1A Division II area-round football victory against Mempis on Friday before about 700 fans at Kimbrough Memorial Stadium.

  SWEETWATER — The Early Longhorns have tried to establish a balanced offensive scheme all season, and their two opening scores in Friday’s Regional playoff game set reinforced that plan. The Longhorns scored on the ground and through the air early on the way to a 24-12 win.

• Richland Springs piles up points, ousts May, 93-43
  COMANCHE — Richland Springs turned four May turnovers into 32 points and the second-ranked Coyotes scored on all 11 of their offensive possessions in a 93-43 Six-Man Division I Region IV semifinal playoff victory over the Tigers here Friday.

• Zephyr storms past Iredell
  Zephyr’s Cord Biddy (14) splits two Iredell defenders and powers through the attempted tackle of a third on the way to a 90-56 six-man playoff victory Friday night in Evant.

• Goldthwaite upends Albany
  STEPHENVILLE — It was vintage Goldthwaite Eagles football.

• Blanket booted, 58-0
  Neil Dove (3) and the Blanket Tigers saw their season to come a close at the hands of the No. 3 Calvert Trojans, 58-0, Friday night in Moody.

  Del Valle High School’s remarkable football season came to a crushing end Friday in a 59-0 Class 4A Division 1 area-round loss to Wolfforth Frenship at Conquest Stadium.

• Montwood faces Permian in area playoffs
  Montwood High School draws perhaps the toughest match-up of any El Paso football team this weekend, when it takes on No. 5 Odessa Permian in a Class 5A Division 1 area-round playoff game at 1 p.m. MDT at Odessa’s historic Ratliff Stadium. 

• Canutillo faces tough Hereford team today
  The last time Canutillo High School reached the Class 4A area playoff round was in 2003, a day current senior Drew Norris remembers quite well.

• Granger rallies from 17-point deficit, beats Normangee to keep title hopes alive  COLLEGE STATION – Granger would not be denied.  With their state championship hopes seemingly slipping away, the No. 6-ranked Lions roared back from a 35-18 halftime deficit to upend No. 9 Normangee 45-35 in a Class A Division I Region IV semifinal Friday night at A&M Consolidated’s Tigerland Stadium.

• Milano gets off to strong start, but No. 7 Bremond takes over for 50-15 win  CAMERON – Despite starting strongly, Milano fell victim to seventh-ranked Bremond 50-15 Friday night in a Class A Division II area-round playoff football game at Yoe Field.

• Steady, unbeaten Salado meets speedy, 9-1 Hitchcock in second round NAVASOTA – Playoff wins are harder to come by than regular-season victories.  Just ask eighth-year Salado coach Jeff Cheatham and his No. 5-ranked Eagles.

• Troy has surprised even itself entering second-round duel with East Bernard   BRYAN – They missed the playoffs last year and they didn’t think they had what it took to make it this year.
